REVIEWS for THEN IS THE POWER (retitled NO PLACE FOR GODS)

Reviewer: Dr. Florence B. Weinberg, Author, San Antonio, TX

FIVE STARS. No Place for Gods (Then Is The Power) is a blockbuster.
~breakneck action, sleuthing, chases, spying, military and paramilitary attacks, science (psychology both normal and paranormal, chemistry, physics, engineering), history both real and imagined, political intrigue both international and internal U.S. (including deadly hostility between branches of American government: executive, intelligence, military). Add sex, love, and tenderness: an off-beat love story between a female powerhouse who flouts all rules and the 'freak' -- the man who can control the wind.
And add to this a numerous, complex cast of characters, deftly described, some loathsome, some sympathetic. Each one is essential; each plays a decisive role.
The novel is written in impeccable style, with a command of the English language and of narrative techniques that manipulates and controls the reader's emotions.
Gerald W. Mills' book had this reader sitting on the edge of the chair from start to finish. READ AND ENJOY IT!

No Place for Gods (original title Then Is The Power) is an incredible read! The plot takes several spins through fast paced action and drama. Was this the unknown power of the Incas and other past civilizations like them? And, if we had these immense powers now, would mankind self destruct? Gerald Mills takes us on a trip where we can see and get a feel for the strains and mechanisms of government. I truly enjoyed it, look for this one!

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. The plot is a roller coaster, characters are fully developed, believable, and interesting, and there is a well-considered back story to the plot as a whole and to the individual situations and characters involved in the story's non-stop, heart-pounding action. By all means, buy a copy of this great novel. It is well worth the price.

THE END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR!! Or so should read the warning label on the cover of this book if it were nonfiction. Driven by desperation, two nations challenge each other, raising world tensions to the level where an eyeblink could mean total destruction for the world.

Russian Dr. Nina Rubinova, psychic researcher, has found a secret and develops it into a weapon which the Russian leaders use to blackmail the President of the United States into surrender. President Winfield does not react as expected and runs a bluff of his own which involves Dr. Whittier, a psychic researcher, and Jim Foster, mystery man about town.

The action in Then is the Power comes fast and furious as the deadline of the Russian ultimatum counts down. An American General involves himself in the mix with only guesswork as to what is going on. The unexpected will be found on every page as this exciting tale unwinds before you.

Author Gerald W. Mills gives the reader an original premise and a well constructed plot based on it. The book is well written and delivers on the promise of excitement and intrigue. Then is the Power is a real page turner and will hold your interest to the last word.

I highly recommend this book to all readers who want originality, excitement, mystery, intrigue, and pleasure in a great read. You will find this book so satisfying you will definitely want to read the sequel, The Mudslinger Sanction. Enjoy.

A thriller with an international flavor, where the innocent are hunted, the knowledgeable hurt, and the guilty are extraordinarily powerful.

The author's style is appealing, and Mr. Mills' command of the language and technique are outstanding, which allows the reader to glide through the story without a hitch.

The ending is both satisfying and yet left a bit open, which makes me suspect Mr. Mills may have another work coming on the heels of Then Is The Power. As a reader, I can only hope so.

...writing at its finest, with nothing neglected. The characters are realistic and distinguishable, never an easy task with a broad sweeping novel on this scale. The plot is so gripping that I read this rather lengthy book in a single sitting. The author has a wonderfully understated sense of humor. The writing is excellent, and the description is so well done that I feel like I've been to these places. Healthy doses of international espionage and the supernatural thrown in to add to the fun.

I've given out five-star reviews before, and I stand by them. But just once, I wish the rules would let me give out a six-star review for Gerry Mills' Then Is The Power....

Reviewer: Uri Geller, internationally known author and psychic

If you like fast-paced plots built around man's untapped powers, you will love Gerald Mills's superbly-crafted novel of international confrontation, where atomic arsenals count for nothing in a power struggle of a different kind.

All power is neutral. Its wielders promote good or evil with it. Then Is The Power pits human failings against triumphs, cold logic against great leaps of faith, and confirms what we already know: mankind is not ready to inherit the greatest powers of all--those mankind may once have had.

Then is the Power (now titled No Place for Gods) could be a great movie!

...a blockbuster, both in size and in concept. Spies, military careerists, scientists, politicians and tabloid journalists-all have their part to play in the ultimate salvation or destruction of a country, and a way of life. From Boston to the wilds of Siberia, Washington to Moscow, Las Vegas and then Bermuda, Gerry Mills spins a story of a clash between selfless sacrifice and self-interest; between the power of the gun and the power of the mind; between what is good in humanity and what is-dare we say the word?-between what is good in humanity and what is evil....

REVIEWS for THE MUDSLINGER SANCTION

Reviewer: Dr. Florence B. Weinberg, Author, San Antonio, TX

FIVE STARS. Take a deep breath, you'll not get another chance!
"The first time I jumped off this cliff I might have been all of four years old. And see that little ledge, Sweetheart, way down the rock face over there? That's where the wind put me down." The boy, now a man, has come back to a scene of his childhood with his beloved, and, confident he has lost none of his powers, persuades her to jump with him. "They plunged as a single person into the suddenly silent void. And from the murky depths a gruesome, grisly graveyard rushed gratefully upward to greet them."

Can you top this opener? If so, stop reading now. But you can't... so read on!

Jim Foster, the hero of Then Is The Power (now No Place for Gods,) has a bounty on his head, set by two world powers, Russia and the United States. He'd previously stopped a probable nuclear war by using his mental control of the wind to gut the Russian embassy in Washington DC, then to empty the reflecting pool between the Washgton and Lincoln monuments of water and sludge, and to dump the entire mess atop the White House. But the superpowers are not grateful. Instead, they consider Jim a world-class terrorist and hire two bounty hunters to bring him in dead or alive: sinister Dutchman Nils Van Oot, hired by both powers, and the Norwegian butcher Bolwerk, working for the Russians. The U.S. president has also engaged the FBI to mount an independent manhunt for the man now known as the Mudslinger.
Foster has disappeared without a trace, but not his partner in saving the world from nuclear disaster, psychologist Dr. Gordon Whittier. The doctor becomes the key to snaring the Mudslinger. The FBI is maintaining a stakeout near his home, and the two bounty hunters converge there to kidnap Whittier. The butcher Bolwerk arrives first and snares the victim; Van Oot appears shortly after; Jim Foster and his sweetheart Trish come to the rescue. But the nest is empty.
There follows a magnificent chase with a severely injured Gordon Whittier as bait: first to a desolate, half-dismantled oil-storage tank, Ekofisk, the diameter of a football stadium, awash in the frigid North Sea. But it does not end there. The concerned parties converge again on El Hierro, smallest and least known of the Canary Islands, where Van Oot maintains his headquarters.
The surprising ending includes a group of FBI operatives in a Keystone Cops finish.

Gerald W. Mills again shows his mastery of technologies of all sorts: computer, helicopter, oil refining; his knowledge of geography, geology, weather patterns, medicine, the vagaries of the law, and the power of the press, not to mention his command of English, his wit, and his breakneck storytelling. Did I mention his ability to paint characters we come to know better than our own family?

You can take a breath now.

Oh, my gosh !!! What a terrific book. I've never ready anything more riveting. Now I can't wait for book #3. Whatever I read next cannot be as compelling as the two I've just finished.

FIVE STARS out of five

When a reader gets wrapped up in a story, it's with the understanding that, in the end, the author will deliver. That the reader's faith will prove warranted. With Gerry Mills, this is certainly the case. I was happily whisked away for several hours into a world that comes from the author's imagination. And when the read was done, I was quite pleased with the outcome.

There's more to a book than plot alone. There are characters you genuinely care about, readily distinguishable from each other and equally interesting. Characters at odds, with the reader able to understand and even sympathize with all sides. There are places to be brought "to life" through description. There's wit, humor, plenty of subplots, language, a dozen other things that all need to be there. In the case of The Mudslinger Sanction , they are. The characterization is especially strong, given the large number of characters we meet. I feel like I know everybody in here. This is as close to real life as fiction gets. Go get it.

REVIEWS for FIRE OWL (2007 EPPIE award winner)

Reviewer: Dr. Florence B. Weinberg

Electronics and science buffs will enjoy Gerald W. Mills' precise description of the deadly owl aircraft. Add to his scientific and engineering expertise his mastery of narrative and language, of suspense, taut drama, and character creation, all of which rise to a peak of excellence in this tale of conspiracy, murder, and arson at the highest levels of government.

Reviewer: Mayra Calvani for The Midwest Book Review

Benjamin Howland, Secretary of the Interior, represents all that America stands for. He is gracious, knowledgeable, a war hero and true patriot. Yet he has a darker, secret side. Propelled by twisted delusions, a distorted sense of goodness and justice and blind, cold ambition, he's planned a mad conspiracy that will bring back America to its old glory. Yes, blood will flow down the streets. Thousands of men, women and children will die. But what better way to unify a country than through great tragedy?

The plan: starting with Yellowstone National Park, to ignite fires at specific locations all throughout the country, using high-tech computerized "owls."

The date: the 4th of July.

Always on the run with his beautiful wife Tricia, James Foster, known as a world-class terrorist and nicknamed the "Mudslinger," has just discovered a new facet to his "alien," unnatural gifts-he is able to "quench" fires. If he succeeds in getting back to the States on time, he might be able to help with those fires and save many lives. But will he-when the American government has put such an exorbitant prize on his head and several contracted killers are after him?

Suspense and spine-tingling, non-stop action await you. An excellent knowledge of electronics, fast-moving scenes, believable characters and sparkling dialogue combine to make this a book you won't want to put down. Like watching a 007 film, it will grab you by the throat till the end. Though the book stand fine on its own, I would recommend reading the first two books in the series, Then is the Power and The Mudslinger Sanction, if only to become more acquainted with the protagonist's struggle to understand and control his own nature.
